If improving your health is on your mind, you’re not alone, sis — most of us focus on fitness, nutrition and wellness as we turn the calendar to a new year. To help you reach those goals, we’ve gathered a variety of free resources, including virtual workouts, wellness workshops, gym trials, healthy-living tools and more. These freebies make prioritizing your health and well-being fun, budget-friendly and doable.
Free workouts. No-cost fitness apps and websites like AARP’s Fitness Center, Adidas Running, Nike Training Club, Map My Fitness, Yoga Fit and YouTube make it accessible and affordable to stay active. You can even create a home-gym vibe by casting workouts from your phone to your TV or opening them directly on a smart TV or with a streaming device. For added motivation and connection, explore the AARP Virtual Community Center, Eventbrite and Meetup for free online and local classes, walking groups and other fitness events.
Free digital wellness magazine. Get a free subscription to Happiful Magazine for mental health and well-being articles and resources.
Free gym access. Many fitness centers offer complimentary day passes or short-term trials, making it easy to test a gym before committing. Chains like 24 Hour Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Crunch, Chuze Fitness, Gold’s Gym, LA Fitness, Orangetheory Fitness, Planet Fitness, Retro Fitness and The Edge Fitness Clubs offer passes ranging from 1 to 7 days. Local YMCAs and independent gyms may also offer free trials.
Free vitamins. Good Neighbor Pharmacy’s Free Vitamin Program provides 30-day supplies of vitamins at no charge for children and adults in your household. Available at select pharmacies nationwide.
Free health and wellness products. Many companies offer free samples to consumers, a great way to try a product before buying. Available products include Extra Strength Breathe Right strips, Tena Overnight Pads Sample Pack, Stopain Extra Strength Pain Relieving Gel, Seni Briefs & Underwear and Exederm Flare Control Cream. Free national park admission. Spending time outdoors supports both physical and mental health by helping reduce stress, improve sleep and boost overall well-being. To make it easier to get outside, the National Park Service offers eight free entrance days in 2026. If you’re 62 or older, consider a senior annual or lifetime pass for discounted access year-round.
Free health and wellness programs. Take advantage of Mayo Clinic Health System’s multiple self-guided programs. Offerings include Journey to Wellness, Slim Your Screen Time, Discover Gratitude, Kickstart Kindness and Fall into Wellness, a month-long course to help you establish new healthy habits.
Free brain challenges. Keep your mind sharp with free word searches, crosswords, trivia and more at AARP’s Game Center.
Free health tools and resources. Track and improve your health with AARP’s free resources, including a BMI Calculator and the Staying Sharp Cognitive Assessment.
Free tracking worksheets. Stay on top of your health and self-care goals with Day Designer’s free printables, including a Weekly Food and Exercise Log, Weekly Meal Planner, Habit Tracker and Self-care Habit Tracker.
Free wellness events. Join fun and free virtual health events through AARP’s Virtual Community Center. Upcoming offerings include 6 Healthy Habits That Support Brain Health, Dance Your Way to Better Health and Zumba Gold, a low-impact version of Zumba. The platform also has a directory of local in-person events.
Free health, fitness and wellness equipment. Browse the “Library of Things” at your local library — you might be surprised at what you can borrow. For example, library branches across the country lend bicycles, pickleball sets, therapy lights, pedometers, jump ropes, food dehydrators and more.
Free healthy living guidance. Access expert resources and wellness support through AARP’s Wellness platform, AARP’s Virtual Community Center and the CVS Wellness Zone.
Free nutrition apps. Keep tabs on your meals, calories and overall nutrition with free apps like Lose It!, MyFitnessPal and Start Simple with MyPlate.
Free meal plans and recipes. Looking for healthy-eating inspiration? Explore Allrecipes.com and Epicurious.com for extensive recipe libraries that fit a variety of diets and tastes. Your local grocery stores can also be a great resource — check their websites or visit customer service for printed recipes, healthy-living magazines and meal ideas. Plus, use AARP’s Recipe Analyzer to get a personalized nutrition breakdown of your favorite dishes.
Free nutrition guidance. Many supermarkets — like Big Y, Giant, Kroger, Publix, ShopRite, Stop & Shop and Wegmans — offer complimentary advice from registered dietitians and nutritionists. Offerings vary by store and can include one-on-one consultations, in-store events, webinars, meal-planning help and online videos.
Free wellness benefits. You might have access to valuable wellness perks through your employer or health care provider. These can include gym memberships, fitness classes, cash rewards, health screenings and weight-management programs. Some insurers also offer free tools for managing conditions, such as blood pressure monitors. If you have Medicare Advantage or a Medicare Supplement Plan, you may also qualify for SilverSneakers, which gives access to gyms and community centers, online and in-person workouts and discounts on wellness products and fitness gear.
Free health screenings. Get complimentary checks for blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol and more through CVS’s Project Health, available at select store locations and mobile units. The program also offers free smoking cessation counseling, mild cognitive impairment and osteoporosis tests for adults 55+ and a Project Health app that provides personalized recommendations. Also, some supermarket pharmacies, including Price Chopper, offer free blood pressure checks and other basic health tests.
Free diabetes resources. Price Chopper’s Diabetes AdvantEdge Program provides free diabetes resources, including a Blood Glucose meter and supplies. Also, access a wealth of information from the American Diabetes Association.
Free heart health resources. Keep your heart in top shape with free tools from the American Heart Association. Use Life’s Essential 8 checklist and My Life Check to evaluate your heart health and discover ways to improve it.
Free brain health resources. Learn how to support and enhance your mental well-being with AARP’s Global Council on Brain Health resource library. Also, Brain & Life’s email newsletter offers helpful resources delivered straight to your inbox.
Free eye exam. The American Academy of Ophthalmology offers complimentary eye exams through its EyeCare America initiative. The program matches eligible adults with volunteer ophthalmologists who provide a one-time medical eye exam.
Free online courses. Explore free health and fitness classes on Coursera and Udemy. Current offerings include Stanford University’s Introduction to Food and Health, Weight Loss Made Simple and Everyday Mindfulness.
